Terminal / Conditions

Which airports charge you to move your own bags.

Does your airport
charge for a trolley?

Most of the world hands you one for nothing. The United States, the United Kingdom and Australia mostly do not. This is a record of which is which, by area of the terminal, with a source and a date against every figure.

Where the 22 recorded airports stand

This is a start, not a survey. The set was chosen to test the data model against awkward cases rather than to be representative, so read it as examples rather than as a proportion of the world. One further airport is on record and closed.

Most expensive so far

  1. MIA Miami International $9.00
  2. LAX Los Angeles International $8.00
  3. JFK John F. Kennedy International $6.00

Converted to US dollars at a dated rate held in the repository, using the cheapest coin or card the machine accepts.

Went free

  1. ABZ Aberdeen
  2. CVG Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International 2025
  3. GEG Spokane International 2011

Both were done by the same person: Larry Krauter, at Spokane in 2011 and at Cincinnati in 2025. Going free costs about 250 carts.
